About Kallie Bourgeois

I’m a senior at Northwestern State University of Louisiana, majoring in communication with a concentration in journalism, broadcast and digital media production. I also hold minors in social science, gender and sexuality studies and political science, along with a certification in strategic communication.

I currently serve as Editor-in-Chief of The Current Sauce, NSU’s independent student-run newspaper, and president of the university’s Society of Professional Journalists chapter.

I began my journalism career in 2023 as an intern reporter for L’Observateur, covering local news in the River Parishes. Since then, I’ve held editorial roles including Sports Editor and Copy Editor at The Current Sauce and Editor-in-Chief of PLUGGED IN Magazine.

My professional experience includes a communications internship with STEM NOLA | STEM Global Action and a current writing internship with Where Y’at Magazine. In August 2026, I will also join the Inclusive Excellence in Journalism Fellowship at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, where I will train in investigative reporting, data journalism and multimedia storytelling.

I’m an aspiring investigative journalist focused on storytelling at the intersection of journalism, media and advocacy and I plan to pursue graduate studies after graduation in May 2027. In my free time I love to build Legos, read historical fiction novels, travel the world and cuddle with my cat Asher James Wellington the III.
